Medotex Gardnerella Vaginalis Antigen Rapid Test is an immunochromatographic assay designed for qualitative detection of Gardnerella vaginalis antigen in female vaginal swab specimens. 

Delivering accurate results in 10 minutes, it enables healthcare professionals to quickly identify Gardnerella vaginalis overgrowth – the key cause of bacterial vaginosis – supporting timely intervention and reducing complications.


Gardnerella vaginalis is an anaerobic bacterium in normal vaginal flora; its overgrowth (replacing Lactobacilli) leads to BV, characterized by clue cells and abnormal vaginal discharge. 


This test uses a double antibody sandwich method for specific detection, ensuring reliable differentiation from other vaginal infections.

What is the role of Gardnerella vaginalis in bacterial vaginosis?

Gardnerella vaginalis overgrowth replaces normal Lactobacilli in the vagina, leading to bacterial vaginosis characterized by clue cells and altered vaginal pH.

What if the test line is faint?

 Any visible shade of color in the Test line (T) indicates a positive result, as intensity varies with antigen concentration.

How should I store the specimen if testing is delayed?

Test immediately after collection; if delayed, store at 2-8°C for up to 72 hours or -20°C for 3 months. Do not freeze and thaw repeatedly.

Does this test cross-react with other vaginal bacteria?

No – it specifically detects Gardnerella vaginalis antigen with no cross-reactivity with common vaginal flora.
